Andy Samberg Has MTV Movie Awards Hosting Tips For Jason Sudeikis

'Make sure 'Twilight' wins everything so the crowd is lively,' he tells his 'SNL' castmate before he hosts the June 5 show.
By Eric Ditzian

Andy Samberg slayed the crowd as host of the 2009 MTV Movie Awards. He shared a naked limo ride with Justin Timberlake, pronounced himself "the best intro-er of people intro-ing things" and lampooned action movies in a hilarious video in which he crooned, ''Cool guys don't look at explosions. They blow things up and then walk away.''

The "Saturday Night Live" star, in other words, knows a thing or two about hosting the wackiest movie awards show on the planet. And thus, he's got some sage advice for "SNL" castmate Jason Sudeikis, who's taking on emcee duties for this year's show, airing live on June 5 — not that he thinks Sudeikis needs much help.

"What advice can you give to a guy that has it all?" Samberg said when we caught up with him and his Lonely Island pals while they were promoting their upcoming comedy album, Turtleneck & Chain.

"Be yourself, grab 'em by the scruff of the neck and don't let go," he went on to advise Sudeikis. "Wear a nice suit. Hydrate. Crunches. Make sure 'Twilight' wins everything so the crowd is lively. Rig the results!"

Hmmm, that's one way of doing it. Another way would be to follow the helpful tips of Aziz Ansari, who hosted the Movie Awards last year. "It's so much work, so definitely have a lot of uppers on hand, like just drugs that'll get you fired up," he joked to us recently. "PCP is good to stay up all night, get all the work done. It's a cool thing, though; it's back in vogue. It's like Twitter, PCP. It's like trendy things: Twitter, PCP, Jonas Brothers."

The MTV Movie Awards nominees — based on your votes at MovieAwards.MTV.com — will be announced Tuesday, at which point you'll be able to vote for your favorite films and stars in categories like Best Fight, Best Kiss, Biggest Badass Star, Best Villain and, of course, Best Movie. Voting will continue through June 4, though Best Movie will remain open throughout the live ceremony on June 5 — meaning you'll have a chance to affect the night's biggest prize until the very last minute.

The 20th annual MTV Movie Awards air live Sunday, June 5, at 9 p.m. ET.

While we're not sure he'll take Ansari's advice, Sudeikis has made it clear he hopes to do a bang-up job. "I'm sincerely flattered that the folks from the Mostly Teenage Viewers network have invited me to host this year, and I look forward to keeping the streak of flawless and critically lauded Movie Awards show hosting in 2011 alive," Sudeikis joked.

Let the cultural baptism begin, little monsters. Lady Gaga is set to release her "Judas" video the week of May 2 on "American Idol." Interscope Records made the announcement on its Twitter account, adding that more details would be on the way.

The video was co-directed by Mother Monster and her creative director, Laurieann Gibson. And, Gibson has made it clear that this video will have everyone talking.

"It's a phenomenal video: really powerful, really impactful," Gibson commented. "She's such a strong, committed artist. Her loyalty to me is something I will be forever grateful for. We're spiritually connected.

"We need each other ... and 'Judas' is ultimately a representation of our true bond."

Gaga will play Mary Magdalene, with Norman Reedus as Judas.

"I will tell you now, first off, I'm Christian, and my career is evidence of God in my life," Gibson said. "And I think that most people are already thinking that Gaga and the blasphemy and they're premeditating the approach, and I think they'll be very shocked to find out how huge and really groundbreaking the message is and how freeing the message is for all the right reasons. And it's really going to shock the world."

For those who can't wait that long, Gaga is set to perform the track on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" on Wednesday. It's not the only TV performance Gaga has lined up to get her fans excited for the May 23 release of Born This Way: Last week, it was announced that Gaga would perform on the May 21 episode of "Saturday Night Live," hosted by Justin Timberlake.

She'll also make a May 27 appearance on "Good Morning America" that will kick off the show's summer concert series, and the premiere of Gaga's highly anticipated HBO special, which was taped at New York's Madison Square Garden in February, will be May 7.

"JUDAS is about forgiveness and perseverance through struggle," Gaga tweeted on Easter Sunday. "Persevere today!"

Which of Gaga's upcoming TV appearances are you most excited for? Tell us in the comments below!

Chuckie Will Debut Michael Jackson Remix In Miami

Official 'Hollywood Tonight' remix coming to Miami Music Week.
By Akshay Bhansali

Leaving the South by Southwest festival, Lavo New York and Las Vegas' Marquee in his wake, house DJ Chuckie has his sights set on the week ahead. With Miami Music Week now upon us, Chuckie plans to seize the opportunity to debut new material. Fans will be tickled to know the Dutch producer has tracks in the can with Kelly Rowland and T-Pain, but when MTV News caught up with him Friday in New York, Chuckie shared the achievement of which he's most proud.

"I did a Michael Jackson remix, which was really scary — to touch Michael Jackson vocals," Chuckie said. "I did this remix for this track 'Hollywood Tonight.' I couldn't say it for a minute: The label called me, and they said, 'You can't say nothing about this. It's kind of a secret project.' It's gonna come out anytime now."

"Hollywood Tonight" was originally produced by Teddy Riley for Jackson's posthumous Michael album, and Chuckie's mix of the song will be the sole official remix of the track.

"I will play it Miami," Chuckie revealed. "I told them this is the best week to launch the remix. So it feels really good. I'm the only one remixing that Michael Jackson track, and they are considering it a single. For me, especially, it's an honor to remix the King of Pop because he died on my birthday."

So, will the mix be a thundering Chuckie Dutch house banger or will it have a melodic progressive house feel, like his Marquee remix of Diddy-Dirty Money's "I Hate That You Love Me"? Well, according to the "Let the Bass Kick" producer, fans will be getting a healthy dose of both.

"I had to bring in the raucous," Chuckie confessed. "Yeah, I did the Chuckie flavor, but then again, I wanted to make it really musical, so I went progressive (house) on it."

Chuckie will be performing twice at Miami Music Week: at the Cr2 Records Party at Wall Lounge on Wednesday, and then headlining "No Sugar Added" at Nikki Beach on Friday.

Are you excited to hear Chuckie's remix of Michael Jackson's "Hollywood Tonight"? Let us know in the comments below!

'American Idol' In 60 Seconds: Casey Abrams' Last Showmance

The Carole King songbook results in Abrams' second elimination of the season.
By Jim Cantiello

Casey Abrams and Haley Reinhart

This week on "American Idol," the top six sang from the Carole King songbook, but the real theme of the night was showmances: Casey and Haley! Lauren and Scotty! Lauren and ... this dude [random audience guy]! Lauren and Steven Tyler! [Clip of Steven Tyler with a little blond toddler on his lap.] Damn, girl, are you trying to audition for "The Real World" or something?

But if we're talking musical promiscuity, Casey Abrams was the real "Hi De Ho." Pianos, trumpets, saxes, harmonicas ... The only thing he didn't hook up with was a melody.

Sit, Ubu, sit! Good dog. [Footage of Casey screaming plays with the sound of the Ubu "bark" from that '80s sitcom vanity plate.]

James Durbin had his best week yet but the brightest star on "Idol" was crazy Penny Marshall. [Jim is in a blond wig and sunglasses]. She is my inspiration.

I want to be her friend, I want to be Scotty's friend, and I really want to be Haley's fu-uh-riend, too.

Yo, Randy, why don't we "turn the other cheek" to Thursday night's results show, where Jimmy Iovine gave his two cents, and Haley told him where he could shove his two cents!

[Clip: Seacrest introduces Crystal Bowersox, but then the camera cuts to a burly male harmonica player.]

Whoa, Crystal really let herself go, didn't she? But Arrested Development hasn't aged a bit! [Footage of Bruno Mars and his 45-piece backing band, who were all sitting on a couch.]

And results!

There's your fake bottom three [the last contestants standing], there's your real bottom three [Lauren, Casey and Jacob sitting on the couch from earlier in the episode].

[Jim holds out a microphone as if he's a sports reporter on the field after the Super Bowl.] Hey, Casey Abrams! You just got cut from "Idol" for the second time. What are you going to do now?

[Jim shouts in a Casey voice.] "I'm going to Creepy World!" [Footage of him grabbing girls by the back of the neck and pulling them in for a kiss during his farewell performance.]

Ding!

Royce Da 5'9' Says Recording With Eminem 'Pushed' Him

'You can only spit on a certain level in order to even keep up,' Royce tells MTV News about Bad Meets Evil EP.
By Rob Markman

When it comes to SoundScan, it's no secret that Eminem is a juggernaut. His 2010 album, Recovery, is fast approaching 4 million copies sold and earlier this week, his sophomore album, The Marshall Mathers LP, was certified diamond.

But according to Royce da 5'9," when he and Slim Shady began recording their upcoming Bad Meets Evil EP, the only thing on their minds was creating raw hip-hop.

"Me and Em, when we started hangin' again — he don't go anywhere — so we were hangin' at the studio," Royce recalls. "And we just started making records, just making 'em because we were both in the lab and we had free time."

The casual recording led to some serious heat, Royce said. So much heat, in fact, that Shady Records decided to release an EP rather than let the songs fall by the wayside.

Nickel Nine and Em first teamed up to form Bad Meets Evil more than a decade ago, releasing the songs "Nothin' to Do," "Scary Movies" and "I'm King" on Game Recordings in 1999. The pair had a falling out, but eventually reconciled. In January, it was announced that Eminem had signed Royce's rap quartet, Slaughterhouse, to his Shady Records label. And earlier this week, the duo revealed plans to release an a-yet-untitled Bad Meets Evil EP in June.

The reunion forced the already well-regarded Royce to step his game up lyrically.

"To me, [Eminem is] one of the greatest rappers ever. So if you're standing in there with him and watching him create, you can only spit on a certain level in order to even keep up," Royce said. "With me, I feel like it's good for me because I get pushed. It brings more out of me."

In the end, the veteran lyricist insisted that, with Bad Meets Evil, there's no pressure to make hits. "We went in and did actually 11 records, two of 'em leaked, so we're gonna use the other nine and that was it," he explained. "We didn't go do 15 records and try to pick the best. We didn't make it an Eminem album so Eminem is under the same pressure of selling what he normally sells. We're not really thinking about that.

"We just wanted to do a raw hip-hop record that's put out on a bigger stage," Royce added. "I think that's what hip-hop is missing."

What are you expecting from the Bad Meets Evil EP? Let us know in the comments!

Jared Leto Calls Kurt Cobain Clip 'An Exploratory Process'

During '30 Seconds to Mars: State of the Union' live stream, Leto says he made short film 'to explore the character' of the Nirvana frontman.
By James Montgomery

On April 5, a day that marked the 17th anniversary of the death of Kurt Cobain, Jared Leto posted a video of himself performing the Nirvana song "Pennyroyal Tea" as Cobain on his website.

While most were struck by the sheer emotion of the clip — Leto is an avowed Cobain fanatic — others took it as the 30 Seconds to Mars' frontman's de facto audition for the eternally in-the-works biopic about the Nirvana leader — even though Leto wrote on his site that he made the film "to explore the character and explore creative possibilities." On Thursday night (April 28), during MTV News' "30 Seconds to Mars: State of the Union" live stream, Leto took it upon himself to further elaborate on why he decided to film the clip in the first place.

"Basically, about a year and a half ago, I ran into Courtney Love. It was at the Chateau Marmont, and I was talking to her, and she mentioned this book, 'Heavier Than Heaven,' and I said, 'Oh, I'm going to read this book,' because I'm a huge Nirvana and Kurt fan, and the book sounded fascinating, so I read it and I loved it," he said. "And I knew they were making a movie, so I put myself on tape, just to explore the character. It was really just something for me. I never sent it to anyone, I never sent it to the studio or the producers of the film. I just made it for myself, and I never did anything with it. But when the anniversary passed, I said, 'You know, I should just put it out and share it with people,' so that's what I did. I put it on my website."

And though he didn't read any of the negative comments about the clip, Leto understands why some may have viewed it that way. Though, as he pointed out, it came from his heart, and there were no other pretenses involved.

"Some people thought it was a tribute to Kurt Cobain, and maybe in some ways it is. I mean, it's a testament to him, but it was really just an exploratory process," he said. "You know, I make films, I've been an actor all my life, too, and you don't necessarily have to act when you're getting paid to show up on a set and do it. That was just an exploration for me."

Still, he said he hasn't watched the Cobain clip since he posted it — not because of any backlash it may have caused, but because he's already moved on to his next project.

"I can, at times, [watch myself on film] because I want to fix and change and improve, and that's probably why I really like the editing room and the editorial process, where, after I direct a video, I spend a lot of time editing — probably three times or four as the average director will spend editing, and I enjoy that," he explained. "But when it was something like that, you know, I made it, I'm done [and] I gave it away."

What did you think of Leto's Kurt Cobain clip? Let us know in the comments.

Aziz Ansari Shares Advice For MTV Movie Awards Host Jason Sudeikis

'Parks and Recreation' star has tips for 'Saturday Night Live' castmember.

It's official, boys and girls, "Saturday Night Live" star Jason Sudeikis is set to host the MTV Movie Awards when the show goes live June 5 from Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California. Who will win Golden Popcorn statues? What kind of zany antics will go down? Nobody really knows, but one guy who understands what it's like to host the show is 2010 emcee and "Parks and Recreation" star Aziz Ansari.

So, what words of wisdom does Mr. Ansari have for Sudeikis nearly 12 months after his stint? "It's so much work, so definitely have a lot of uppers on hand, like just drugs that'll get you fired up," he joked to MTV News. "PCP is good to stay up all night, get all the work done. It's a cool thing though; it's back in vogue. It's like Twitter, PCP. It's like trendy things: Twitter, PCP, Jonas Brothers."

Voting will continue through June 4, though Best Movie will remain open throughout the live ceremony June 5 — meaning you'll have a chance to affect the night's biggest prize until the very last minute.

Robert Plant And Alison Krauss Win Grammy Album Of The Year

Raising Sand, from Led Zeppelin vet and bluegrass superstar, wins five Grammys on Sunday night.
By James Montgomery with MTV News staff

Alison Krauss and Robert Plant accept the award for Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards on Sunday

"I'm bewildered," Robert Plant said onstage as he accepted the Grammy Album of the Year award with Alison Krauss on Sunday night. "In the old days we would have called this selling out, but it's a good way to spend a Sunday."

He was probably one of the few who were surprised, because Raising Sand, which won five trophies at Sunday night's show, is in many ways the perfect Grammy album. It features two respected veterans, a critically lauded producer, some sandpaper-and-velvet vocals and a baker's dozen of time-tested standards.

You're probably familiar with Robert Plant from his Led Zeppelin days, and you might be aware of producer T-Bone Burnett's work on the "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" soundtrack (it won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2002). And if you don't know who Alison Krauss is, she possesses a haunting set of pipes and is one of the meanest fiddle players in the world. Oh, and she's won 21 Grammys, more than any other female artist and the seventh-most in history.

Really, she's the key to Sand's success, and not just because of her voice (or her fiddle playing). She and Plant first met in 2004, at a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tribute to legendary bluesman Leadbelly, and the former Zeppelin man was amazed by her knowledge of American Roots music — so much so that they began kicking around the idea of recording an album together. Three years later, Sand was released.

And while Plant possesses the more famous voice, the album's finest moments radiate from Krauss. Whether she's getting bluesy on Little Milton's "Let Your Loss Be Your Lesson" or entwining with Plant's husky voice on songs like "Please Read the Letter" and Roly Salley's winsome "Killing the Blues," she more than carries her end of the bargain.

And perhaps that's also due to producer Burnett, who handpicked the 13 songs the duo cover on Sand. His arrangements are sparse — giving the two voices ample room to breathe — yet dense, warm and crackling at the same time. It's a testament to his work that he's often given just as much billing as Plant and Krauss on the project ... and it's certainly justified.

To date, Sand has sold more than 1 million copies, heaped tons of acclaim and actually earned a Grammy last year — "Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On)" took home the award for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals.

One expert was surprised not by the album's success, but by the fact that it's actually quite a good album.

"At first, the album seemed like a vanity project. ... Two names, clearly a one-off record, didn't have to be any good, you know?" New York Times music critic Jon Caramanica said. "Led Zeppelin fans would buy it because of Robert Plant, Alison Krauss would get a check. But it actually turned out to be a really thoughtful, really good record. So when you combine all that with the fact that the Grammys love to lionize one of their own, I could really see it taking home some awards."

Royal Wedding Update: Prince Charles Busts A Move, Kate Middleton?s Vows Leaked?

As the world settles into the eve of the epic royal wedding, we?re being treated to a number of interesting side-stories. Now that it?s certain that Jay-Z and Beyonce won?t be on hand, people have moved on to more serious business. Beyonce Gets Fierce In Promo Shot For New Single

Singer looks as if she's channeling Grace Jones in photo for girl-power anthem.
By Jocelyn Vena

Beyoncé (file)
Photo: James Devaney/ WireImage

Editor's note: Since publishing this story, it has come to our attention that the photo assumed to be of Beyoncé for her new single is actually a fake.

She may have retired Sasha Fierce, but that doesn't mean she's any less fierce. Beyoncé's promo shot for her girl-power anthem, possibly titled "Girls (That Rule the World)," has hit the Internet.

In the close-up, black-and-white snapshot, Beyoncé looks as if she's channeling Grace Jones. Her hair is pulled back sleekly, her mouth is slightly open and her black liquid eye makeup is done up in a funky cat-eye style. She appears to be nude and is wearing black nail polish. The shot first appeared on Twitter. The question "Who run the world?" appears on the poster, with the tease, "Coming Soon."

The photo comes as more and more shots of the music video for the song have hit the Web. On Wednesday, Beyoncé was seen on the set looking like the queen of her own country, with a gigantic crown and flag with the initial "B" on it.

Just a day before, Beyoncé made headlines when she was spotted on a music video set wearing a white Givenchy jumpsuit, faux-hawk and sunglasses. The video will reportedly be directed by Francis Lawrence, who worked with Beyoncé in her Destiny's Child days. He's also worked with Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and Pink.

On Thursday, a snippet of the track leaked. It's a feisty club-thumper about the power of being female.

"Love it how we're smart enough to make these millions, strong enough to bear the children, then get back to business," she sings. "Please, you better not play me. Oh, come here, baby/ Hope you still like me, if you pay me."

The tease certainly fit Bey's previous description of the album's vibe. "Well, I wouldn't say I'm inventing a new genre," Beyoncé explained. "I'm mixing every type of genre that I love, and I'm inspired by every type of genre. ... I'm not in a box. It's not R&B. It's not typically pop. It's not rock. It's just everything I love all mixed together in my own little gumbo of music."

New Britney Spears 'Till The World Ends' Video Hits Web

The re-edited version of the post-apocalyptic party clip features more footage of Spears and her backup dancers showing off their moves.
By Jocelyn Vena

Britney Spears in her new "Till the World Ends" video
Photo: Jive

A dance version of Britney Spears' "Till the World Ends" video has hit the Web just in time for the weekend. The original clip, which premiered earlier this month and got lots of great buzz for Spears, shows the pop vixen leading a wild underground dance party as an apocalyptic storm hits the planet, and the new video features a lot of similar footage with a number of noticeable changes.

One of the most conspicuous differences is that the new "Till the World Ends" clip offers a lengthier peek into some of the sleek moves of Spears' backup dancers. There are definitely more shots of Britney dancing as well, even if sometimes they are obscured in shadow. Interestingly enough, much of the apocalypse storyline has been edited out to make room for those new dancing shots. While the party looks the same, the fact that the world is crashing around them is a nonissue for this version of the Ray Kay-directed video.

Rather than focusing on the impending doom outside, this cut displays all the fun down in Spears' sweaty underground party. As the video closes out, there are shots of her dancers, individually, showing off their skills, intercut with footage of Spears smiling as she sings about getting her party on.

The new clip's ending is entirely different from that of the original. Instead of emerging from her post-apocalyptic party to a sun-drenched world that, well, has not ended, Spears just looks into the camera, still apparently hiding from what is assumed to be some catastrophe that has befallen the Earth. It hints at a darker finish for Spears and her partiers ... maybe in this version the world does end.

"The real music video is best, of course," Ray Kay tweeted on Thursday about his re-edited version of the clip. "But it's fun to watch the choreography too."

Do like like the dance-heavy re-edited version of Britney's "Till the World Ends" video? Let us know in the comments.

It's safe to say that no one quite knew what to expect the last few years as pieces fell into place for "Cowboys & Aliens," Jon Favreau's upcoming sci-fi Western mash-up that features an impressive cast of celebrated Hollywood notables.

Scripted by the "Star Trek" and "Transformers" duo of Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman and based on a Platinum Studios comic book, "Cowboys & Aliens" follows mysterious loner Jake Lonergan (Daniel Craig), who rides into town with no memory of his past and a piece of strange technology attached to his wrist. Things quickly go from bad to worse as strange invaders from the sky lay siege to the town, forcing Lonergan to join forces with Col. Woodrow Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford), the equally mysterious Ella (Olivia Wilde) and the rest of the area's inhabitants to fend off the alien army.

With "Cowboys & Aliens" firmly entrenched as one of this summer's most-anticipated blockbusters, MTV News spoke to one-half of the film's writing team to get some insight into the genre-bending world of "Cowboys & Aliens."

MTV: Ever since this film was first announced, no one knew what to make of "Cowboys & Aliens" from the title. Was it a comedy? Was it supposed to be a serious genre film? Did you ever consider changing the title?

Roberto Orci: No, the reason we jumped on this project originally was because we saw the title. So, once we were deep into the project, the idea of changing it seemed strange to us, even though a few people did question it because they thought it might be misleading. In a way, we tend to like things like that, because we think of the movie's release as sort of a campaign. When we did "Transformers," people said, "Well, is that a cartoon? Is that the Power Rangers? What is that?" And then as they become educated, they're actually forced to think about it and it sticks in their mind even more because they have to reassess what the title means. It actually ends up being a dialogue with the audience as they start to see what we're doing with it. So for us, we always thought we could never change that title. It's a kick-ass title.

MTV: How much of the film have you seen so far? Is it finished?

Orci: I've seen everything multiple times, but we're not locked yet. We've just been in post-production for months now, so I know every foot of it very well.

MTV: When it comes to actors like Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford, there's a certain amount of writing for the actors more so than the characters, because they can both make a role their own. Did you find yourself doing that with "Cowboys & Aliens," even though the story had existed prior to either of them joining the cast?

Orci: Absolutely. When we found out that we might get interest from both of them, it already started affecting how we were finishing our rewrites. Then before shooting, we spent a couple of weeks with each of them separately and together and Olivia [Wilde] as well, to kind of refine what we had there. When you have actors who are that specific and that talented, you can find things that you can't find working in a vacuum simply by sitting in a room and discussing the parts and what words fit better in their mouths.

In the case of Harrison Ford, we realized we had someone who could play an infinitely more complicated character than we originally imagined, and that manifested in more complicated lines and more complicated dialogue. In the case of Daniel [Craig], who is so amazing physically and just so amazing technically as an actor, we realized there are some lines he didn't actually need — he could just do it with his eyes and with his body. It's storytelling like that which tended to fit the Western a little more.

MTV: I read that Steven Spielberg sat a few of you down for a screening session early on in the process, showing you "The Searchers" and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" as prime examples of the two genres ...

Orci: Yes, he got a brand new print of "The Searchers" and he sat me and Damon Lindelof, Alex Kurtzman and Jon Favreau down in a theater and, as we watched it, he had a running commentary. He was like, "Now look at where the horizon line is in this shot. Why do you think John Ford did that?" It was insane. It was unreal. I mean, I would've paid for that class.

MTV: This summer is pretty crowded with comic book movies, but as we've discussed, "Cowboys & Aliens" is a little different from the rest. In your words, how does this film differ from the rest of 2011's big blockbusters? What sets it apart?

Orci: Its originality. It's not a superhero movie and it's not a sequel or a prequel or whatever. That's mostly what you're seeing this summer. In terms of seeing something you haven't seen before, that's "Cowboys & Aliens." I also think it's going to have a broader appeal. It's a great ensemble cast, so there's a representative of everyone in the audience up there on screen going through this. We're all a little jaded by how much we've seen as moviegoers, so the idea of people in the 18th century who don't even have electricity yet seeing lights in the sky and aliens and how they process that ... It gives it a fresh feeling and a kind of newness that I think is going to translate.

Nicole Kidman, Ewan McGregor and Baz Luhrmann will remember the influential film live on MTV.com.
By MTV News staff

Ten years ago, Baz Luhrmann brought us into the world of the "Moulin Rouge," a sexy, musical take on the subculture of turn-of-the-century Paris based on the story of Orpheus and Eurydice. It starred Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman and featured over-the-top costumes and reinventions of modern songs from "Lady Marmalade" to "Smells Like Teen Spirit."

To commemorate that movie's 10th anniversary, MTV News reunites Luhrmann, Kidman and McGregor to celebrate "Moulin Rouge at 10: A Spectacular Spectacular MTV News Event" on Monday, May 2, at 3 p.m. ET on MTV.com. The director and stars will be joined by co-star John Leguizamo, who played artist Toulouse-Lautrec, and Catherine Martin, who won the Oscar for costume design and art direction. Hosted by MTV News' Josh Horowitz, the live stream will include special appearances and live interviews while looking back at how the film came to be and how its legacy continues to grow.

To get in on the fun, fans can submit questions for the "Moulin Rouge" director and talent via the @MTVNews Twitter handle with the hashtag #AskMoulin.

The film premiered in 2001, quickly permeated pop culture and reinvented the modern movie musical. Its influence can still be seen today with the success of musical television shows like "Glee" and "American Idol." It's also had an impact on fashion, graphic design and style.

The film was nominated for eight Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actress for Nicole Kidman, and it won two, for art direction and costume design. It was the first musical nominated for Best Picture in 22 years. "Moulin Rouge" also took home two MTV Movie Awards for Best Musical Sequence (Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor) and Best Female Performance (Nicole Kidman).

Nicki Minaj 'Really Excited' About Britney Spears Tour

MC says she wants to 'show people that I can be part of any world.'

Fans are eight weeks away from the launch of the Femme Fatale tour. Britney Spears, along with top-line tour opener Nicki Minaj, will get the party started in June in Sacramento, California.

Minaj has called the slot "an honor." When MTV News caught up with the Barbie herself in New Orleans for the latest stop on the I Am Still Music Tour, she opened up a bit more about the matchup.

"She's definitely iconic and I'm very excited," Minaj explained. "It's weird. I just always remember her, since I was little, ruling the world, so I'm really excited to just expand my fanbase and show people that I can be a part of any world."

Minaj is the reigning princess in the hip-hop world, and she feels that hooking up with pop's leading queen will expand her horizons, even if she has to make some changes to her stage show.

"Of course I will adjust some things. I definitely will take away that one particular stage prop," she said of one very phallic object, adding that her music and set list will basically stay the same. "We'll add some stuff 'cause I got some new things coming out this summer, some new records."

Earlier this week, Minaj called into Ryan Seacrest's radio show, promising that things will be characteristically over-the-top when she hits the road with Spears.

"I'm calling to let everyone know how thrilled I am, how honored I am to be going on the road with the iconic Miss Britney Spears this summer. I just know that when the Femme Fatales and the Barbs get together, we're going to kick major ass," she said. "And I am looking forward to creating a new, a bigger, a brighter, a more spectacular show. And I am just really, really excited to make history with Britney, so you guys, make sure you come out this summer."

Lindsay Lohan Locks Role In 'Gotti' Flick

Actress is set to play mob wife Kim Gotti in the film.

After some momentary drama on Wednesday, when it seemed that Lindsay Lohan's role in the mob family biopic "Gotti: Three Generations" was in jeopardy, it was confirmed later that the embattled starlet would still be in the film.

Originally up for the role of Victoria Gotti, Lohan is now set to play the wife of John Gotti Jr., Kim Gotti. "I'm really excited to be back on set and clear up all the misinterpretations about me and show this is what I love to do," Lohan said about the casting, according to The Associated Press. "I think it's such an iconic story. I think it's a great story to be told. I'm honored to be working with John Travolta and Joe Pesci."

The movie's producer, Marc Fiore, explained to People.com that it was Lohan herself who managed to make sure she got cast in the flick. "She was definitely out as of earlier today, but she really wanted the part," he said. "She not only is back in the movie, but she single-handedly put it all together. She called me personally and put her team on it, and we came to an agreement."

Lohan, who was originally rumored to be a part of the movie earlier this month, said that she looks forward to playing the role because "you don't get to see the heart behind the story and the real side of people. I can relate to that because I think that I've been portrayed in a certain light. I just want to do my best to show what their family really went through."

'Hangover Part II' Director Todd Phillips Reveals His 'Godfather' Inspiration

Check out an exclusive picture of the gang huddled around a fire in Thailand to kick off MTV News' Summer Movie Preview Week.

This week, MTV News kicks off our Summer Movie Preview week, five jam-packed days in which we'll bring you exclusive interviews, photos and clips from the upcoming season's most-anticipated flicks — everything from "Captain America: The First Avenger" and "X-Men: First Class" to "Bridesmaids" and "Bad Teacher" to "Conan," "Kung Fu Panda 2," "Larry Crowne" and more.

We're getting it all started with an exclusive photo from "Hangover Part II" — Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and the rest of the gang huddled around a fire in Thailand — and a chat with director Todd Phillips about a comedy he thinks can measure up to the finest second installments in movie history.

"I think there are very few sequels that have been made that live up to or exceed their first film. 'The Godfather' is the first one," Phillips told us. "We had always planned on calling it 'The Hangover 2,' and when we finished the script, I changed the cover page and wrote 'The Hangover Part II,' because I think the film lives up to or exceeds the first one. It was very much a nod to 'The Godfather.' "

If Robert De Niro portrayed the breakout character in Francis Ford Coppola's masterpiece of a sequel, Phillips points to his film's monkey as the one everyone will be talking about when the movie hits theaters May 26.

"There's a monkey in the film that I think is going to book a lot of parts after this film," Phillips said of the creature who, under Galifianakis' perverse guidance, simulates oral sex on a Buddhist monk in the trailer. As Zach says in the trailer, "When a monkey nibbles on a weenus, it's funny in any language."

Truth! And we don't want the laughs to end. Which is why, even though the second flick hasn't even hit theaters, we can't help but wonder if there's a third one in the works. "I could [do a third]," Phillips admitted. "And I'm only saying that because we love working together — me, Ed [Helms], Bradley, Zach, Justin [Bartha], Ken Jeong. We have such a good time on these movies. I know it sounds absurd, but I see other movies that have gone to three and you go, 'I get why they do it.' It's actually fun. We just spend the whole day laughing and trying to make a movie."

It's Summer Movie Preview Week, and MTV News will be bringing you exclusive interviews, clips and photos for the most anticipated films of the coming months. Get ready to gorge on inside looks at "Captain America," "The Hangover Part II," "X-Men: First Class," "Cowboys & Aliens" and more.

Ke$ha Says Her Own Britney-Style All-Girl Tour Will Be All Guys

'Blow' singer is psyched for the summer leg of her Get $leazy Tour with Spank Rock, LMFAO.
By Gil Kaufman

There's certainly something to be said for girl power. Ke$ha felt it when she hit the road with Rihanna last year, when the two apparently engaged in a variety of high jinks, including some alleged backstage pillow fights.

But when MTV News caught up with the glitter-soaked party girl on Wednesday just hours before her show at New York's Roseland Ballroom and asked her who she might bring along if she were able to put together a Britney Spears-style all-girl tour, Ke$ha didn't hesitate to name her posse.

Sitting cross-legged on a couch in black tights, black cowboy boots, black leather gloves and sleeveless black rocker T-shirt, Ke$ha told us that her all-girl lineup would actually be, well, all guys. "All-girl fantasy tour?" she said, staring up at the ceiling for a moment and contemplating the idea. "I mean, I play nice with chicks. I actually put together my personal fantasy tour and I just announced the second leg of my Get $leazy Tour and that's gonna be: me and LMFAO and Spank Rock."

And while the upcoming outing will be light on the estrogen — much like the first leg of her $leazy tour, on which she is sharing the stage with party-rap dude Beardo — Ke$ha insisted that it still will offer what her fans have come to expect from her shows. "It's not an all-girls tour, but it's gonna be f---ing sleazy," she maintained.

That macho vibe has been on display during to the winding-down first leg of the $leazy fest, which Ke$ha has nicknamed the "I Can Do Whatever We Want Tour." So, what kind of perks come with being a first-time headliner? "Blasting glitter violently at people, even if they don't want it," said Ke$ha. "It's like they don't even have a choice. It is a little volatile, but I do it anyways. I feel like people know me for my glitter and I don't want to disappoint."

Are you planning to see Ke$ha on the next leg of her Get Sleazy tour? Tell us in the comments.

Beyonce's New Single, 'Girls (Who Run The World),' Leaks Online

A demo version of the girl-power track hit the Net late Monday.
By Jocelyn Vena

A version of Beyoncé's forthcoming single "Girls (Who Run the World)" has hit the Internet, and as you might guess from the title, it's a thumping girl-power anthem. It samples Major Lazer's "Pon de Floor" and serves as B's lead single off her forthcoming new album, set for release later this year.

A rep for the singer had not returned MTV News' request for comment regarding the leaked track or the final version's release date as of press time.

The song opens with a keyboard and a heavy club beat as Beyoncé chants, "Girls!/ We run this mutha/ Girls!/ Who run the world." The club banger delivers on what Beyoncé has teased about the album: "I'm mixing every type of genre that I love and I'm inspired by every type of genre. ... I'm not in a box. It's not R&B. It's not typically pop. It's not rock. It's just everything I love all mixed together in my own little gumbo of music."

Beyoncé sings in her signature staccato style on the track. "It's hot up in here/ DJ don't be scared to run this, run this back/ I'm repping for the girls who taking over the world/ Have me raise a glass for the college grads," she sings.

"Boy you know you love it/ How we're smart enough to make these millions/ Strong enough to bear the children/ Then get back to business/ See, you better not play me/ Don't come here, baby/ Hope you still like me/ If you hate me," she goes on to declare. "My persuasion can build a nation/ In this hour/ Our love we can devour/ You'll do anything for me." Her vocals fade out as the song closes. But the song's message is clear.

"It'll be big. It'll probably be one of the bigger Beyoncé music videos ever done," director Francis Lawrence said of the video for the song. "And I can say that I think the song is unbelievable." He added, "It is a fantastic song, so I really hope that song catches for her, and I think the video's gonna be really fun and cool and different for her."

'X-Men: First Class' Star Zoe Kravitz Talks 'Sexy' Audition

Cast as mutant Angel, Kravitz chats with MTV News about doing dangerous stunts, donning CGI wings and more.
By Eric Ditzian

The stars of "X-Men: First Class"
Photo: Marvel

MTV News' Summer Movie Preview roars ahead today, following up Monday's "Captain America" exclusive with even more comic-book movie goodness in the guise of "X-Men: First Class." Our exclusive photo captures many of the core mutants — James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and others — looking very suspiciously at ... well, something. (We'll have to wait until the film hits theaters on June 3 to find out for sure.)

Additionally, "X-Men" star Zoë Kravitz, who plays the insect-winged mutant Angel, called up MTV News to chat about the film's devoted fanbase, her less-than-sexy audition, and what it's like to be strung up on wires over a freezing cold beach for a week — all in the name of movie magic.

MTV: Have you gotten a sense yet about how passionate people are about comic book properties like "X-Men"?

Zoe Kravitz: Yes, it's crazy! I've never been into comic books, so I was never in that world. When the trailer came out, I looked at it on YouTube and there were pages and pages and pages of comments. People were getting heated. And all the blogs — it's crazy! This is really near and dear to a lot of people, so I hope we don't disappoint them!

MTV: Well, the reaction so far has been very positive, but was there that added pressure on set to get it right, based on how intense the fanbase is?

Kravitz: When we were filming it, we didn't have that sort of energy. We were just focused on what we were doing. We tried to focus on the drama in the material and approach everything as actors. Now that we're done, we're seeing that people are reacting strongly to what they've seen.

MTV: What was your audition process like?

Kravitz: I was actually one of the last people cast. It happened really quickly. They were being really secretive about the script and the characters that were going to be in the film, so I didn't even know who I was auditioning for. I didn't think I had a shot. I didn't even take it seriously. It wasn't with [director] Matthew [Vaughn]. It was with the casting director in New York. I got the call at the last minute and I'd gone out the night before and I was hungover and tired and not the prepared person that I usually am. I was wearing a big hat and totally not being a sexy "X-Men" character. I went in and had a good time with it. They called back and said, "Matthew really responded to your tape, but can you come back and maybe wear something a little more sexy?" I didn't know until later the character was a go-go dancer. I went back in and in the next two weeks, I was on plane to London.

MTV: So you didn't have to strap on the insect wings?

Kravitz: Nope! They flew me out and there was a full month of preproduction of making decisions about the wings — and putting them on — and the different shapes and colors. And there was a lot of training. I did do a lot of wire work, so I had to get pretty strong.

MTV: Angel isn't one of these super well-known characters, but she's got a cool backstory where she runs away from home and discovers her mutation. Do we get any of those origins in the movie?

Kravitz: She has such a cool background, but that is not in the film. You meet her later when they're recruiting these mutants to form the first group of X-Men. But it was really helpful for me to know all that information to form the character. But who knows what will happen in the future. Hopefully, they'll continue with her.

MTV: What's going on with that shot of you, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender in the trailer? You've got your top off in some kind of red, velvet-covered room.

Kravitz: It's really funny. They come to find me, knowing about my mutation, and I'm working at a go-go club. I don't know what they're there for, so I take them in back for a private dance and then we show each other our powers.

MTV News: Are the wings totally CGI?

Kravitz: Yeah. The tattoos are really there and they make them come out of the tattoos with CGI.

Kravitz: Was there was one stunt or scene that was particularly difficult or that you're proud of?

MTV: I never got hurt, so nothing was too scary. There is this big scene on the beach at the end, and they shot it in Georgia. They had me wired up and really high in the air and zooming around the beach. It was really cold and I was wearing these leather shorts and this backless top. I was up there for a week, zooming around and freezing my ass off. And then there was this one stunt I didn't get to do. They hung my stunt double out of this helicopter over the ocean. I was like, "Why can I do that?" And they were like, "Um, no."

Check out everything we've got on "X-Men: First Class."

Beyonce Waves Her 'B' Flag In New Video Set Photos

Leaked pictures show diva in an elaborate headdress, surrounded by female 'soldiers.'
By James Montgomery

Beyoncé on the set of her "Girl" music video
Photo: Fame Pictures

On Tuesday, Beyoncé fans went batty when photos of the Queen B — reportedly taken on the set of her brand-new music video — began making the rounds. The blurry snaps show B rocking a fierce faux-hawk, white jumpsuit and sunglasses, reportedly Givenchy couture (like there was any doubt) and, according to fan sites like BeyonceDaily, are from the shoot for a song called "Girl."

Aside from that, details remained scarce ... until Wednesday (April 13) that is, when even more on-set pics hit the Net. In the new photos, Beyoncé stands in a smoky, post-apocalyptic war zone, wearing an elaborate headdress and holding a battle flag aloft (and it sure looks like said flag is emblazoned with a big "B"). She's surrounded by an army of dancers, each of whom is dressed in what could charitably be called "Les Misérables" chic, their fists thrust triumphantly in the air.

It's not exactly clear if the photos are taken from the set of "Girl" or, as some reports suggest, they're from another video shoot, supposedly for a song called "'Till the End of the World." Regardless, Beyoncé is clearly up to something, and her flurry of activity only lends credence to a report in Australia's The Daily Telegraph that she'll be releasing the follow-up to her massive I Am ... Sasha Fierce in late June.

When MTV News last spoke to Beyoncé, she told us she was aiming to bust barriers with the new album, proclaiming that she was drawing inspiration from "every type of genre."

"I'm not in a box," she said. "It's not R&B. It's not typically pop. It's not rock. It's just everything I love all mixed together in my own little gumbo of music."

What do you think of Beyoncé's video-set photos? Tell us in the comments!
