Justin Timberlake Takes Ownership Stake In MySpace

After playing Napster founder in 'The Social Network,' JT takes on social media role in real life.
By Gil Kaufman

It was one of the most spectacular flame-outs in Internet history, but the rise and precipitous fall of MySpace was not enough to scare away a new big-name investor: Justin Timberlake.

The singer-turned-actor, who earned praise for his work portraying the founder of Napster in the hit Facebook movie "The Social Network," announced on Wednesday that he was taking a minority stake in MySpace, which was sold to California-based Specific Media this week for $35 million in cash and equity, according to the Los Angeles Times. The amount of Timberlake's investment was not disclosed.

Specific took the troubled site off the hands of Rupert Murdoch's News Corp., which famously paid $580 million for the then-hot MySpace six years ago, when Facebook was not yet a social media giant. In the ensuing years, MySpace lost ground as Facebook became a massive presence, and News Corp. failed to turn around its fortunes, losing money and market share at an alarming pace, despite several attempts to make over the site.

Timberlake said in a statement that he plans to revive the site in his role as creative director. "There's a need for a place where fans can go to interact with their favorite entertainers, listen to music, watch videos, share and discover cool stuff and just connect," Timberlake said. "MySpace has the potential to be that place. ... Art is inspired by people and vice versa, so there's a natural social component to entertainment. I'm excited to help revitalize MySpace by using its social media platform to bring artists and fans together in one community."

Specific Media co-founder Tim Vanderhook said MySpace still has a global traffic base of nearly 100 million people every month (compared to Facebook's 750 million), and he is convinced the site can be brought back to "what it was supposed to be originally."

SPOTTED: Kimora Has The FAB BLUEs At Lunch With Djimon

What a fab lunch date for the HounsousKimora Lee was spotted rocking a hot blue curve hugging mini dress while on a lunch date in Beverly Hills with her hubby Djimon.

We've got pics of the twosome being their usual hot selves inside....

Kimora played with the paparazzi at lunch flipping the camera on them instead.  And she had the last laugh flaunting her toned bod in this cute dress and black Louboutin pumps and her reddish pink Birkin bag as she headed home:

And she flashed her canary diamond wedding ring and bright yellow summer nails as the two drove off.  Cute!

And speaking of that whopper of a ring, Kimora recently dished to Us Weekly, while out promoting her new fragrance Love me, that she suggests picking love over money any day...kinda:

"You could pawn the ring and get the money. And if you're in love and it doesn't work out, there's always an insurance policy in there somewhere."

Lady Gaga Unveils Panda Alter Ego On Japanese TV

'Gagapanda' jokes she's 'been eating a lot of bamboo this week' before revealing plans for 2012 tour, having babies and more.

Lady Gaga appears on the Japanese talk show "Sukkiri"
Photo: Sukkiri

Lady Gaga is currently in the planning stages for her next tour. After wrapping up her epic Monster Ball run earlier this year, Gaga teased her plans on a Japanese talk show on Tuesday (June 28).

"All over the world and I'm already planning," she said of the trek, which she expects to kick off at the top of 2012. "I'm so excited I can't even go to sleep at night."

Gaga appeared wearing a black-and-white dress, with her hair done up in two buns and her eye makeup painted in two panda-like circles. "I really like pandas," she told the hosts of her look, adding, "pandas have paws, and I always tell my fans to put their paws up. I've been eating a lot of bamboo this week," she joked. (Shortly after the appearance, the singer even began referring to herself as Gagapanda on Twitter.)

She then played a little game called "Yes or No," where she was asked questions about her popularity on Twitter, her love of cooking, her clothes and more. She later elaborated on some of the topics. "My dream is to continue to make music and tour and do as much as I can to give as much back to my fans," she said. "Personal dreams? I suppose one day I'll have panda babies."

Gaga owned up to having one major fear, however. "The only thing I really get scared of is missing out on moments with my family 'cause I travel so much, so I call my mom and dad every day," she said. Asked whether she was scared of ghosts, Gaga said, "No, we can be friends." She went on to add, "I love Japanese monster movies. I actually believe in ancestors. I have a lot of family in my past like my Aunt Joann and my grandfather that have passed on and I talk to them."

What do you think of Gaga's panda-inspired look? Tell us in the comments!

Kevin Hart Recaps His First BET Awards Hosting Stint...And The Chris/Rihanna Award Drama+YBF's Red Carpet Chats From The Weekend

Just in case you haven't had enough BET Awards coverage to hold you over till next year.....The YBF caught up with 2011 host Kevin Hart backstage immediately after his HI-larious stint Sunday night. He dished on what REALLY happened with the whole Chris/Rihanna award mixup, plus all his personal highlights from the night.

That video plus us chopping it up with Keri Hilson, Diggy Simmons, Laz Alonso and more at Debra Lee's BET Awards Dinner inside....

BET's Stephen Hill has since issued a statement of apology for BET messing up the award for Viewer's Choice Sunday night on their end.  The extra awkward moment of Fan Tiffany Green having her moment for life in front of 7 million viewers, just to be told something different than what was on her Sprint tablet (you know Sprint is pissy too).  She announced Rihanna (due tot he teleprompter), but it was actually Chris Brown who won--which her Sprint tablet said.

Of course, comedian and host of the night Kevin Hart told us backstage just minutes after the show that it was a total mixup.  Nothing intentional.  And he's also got a crazy long list of work coming up. Loves him.

And Saturday night, we hit the red carpet of Debra Lee's 5th Annual BET Awards dinner in L.A.  Diggy Simmons tells us his debut album iis dropping later this year, and we chatted with Keri, Estelle, Laz Alonso, and more....

VIDEO: Linkin Park Packs Red Square For Transformers 3

As part of Linkin Park?s ongoing musical involvement with the Transformers franchise, the band drew thousands to Red Square in Moscow for a special performance. I?m not sure I have ever seen a movie promoted quite like this one. We?ve been inundated with trailers for Dark Of The Moon, giving us rousing sneak peeks into the epic CGI and special effects that have been a mainstay for the films. Somehow, someway, the folks behind the film have 1-upped themselves for the second time. Part of the ground breaking effort to stuff the film down our throats includes one of the most innovative bands of our time; Linkin Park. The band has been involved with the franchise since the very beginning, with a single for each of the films so far. Their new track ?Iridescent? will be released as part of the third movie?s soundtrack. One of a kind special effects come along with a one of a kind band. LP is the perfect combo for the movies because of their technologically advanced sound. They incorporate electronica, rock, and even hip-hop into their music, which marries perfectly with Chester and Mike?s vocals. To me, their songs are epic, just like Transformers. [...]

Taylor Swift, Rihanna Dress To Impress At Billboard Awards

Nicki Minaj, Ke$ha, Selena Gomez also make fashion splash on red carpet, as showgirl style rules at the Las Vegas event on Sunday night.
By Jocelyn Vena

Taylor Swift at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards

On Sunday night, some of the biggest names in the music industry hit up the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas and decided that sparkles and sequins make for the perfect additions to any red carpet get-up. Well, it is Sin City after all.

Taylor Swift always seems to bring some of that Nashville sparkle to any red carpet. She arrived at the show in a pale-hued, sequined Elie Saab gown. Nicki Minaj showed off her signature sense of style in her baby-blue, body-hugging spandex Mark Fast catsuit.

Selena Gomez turned up the style dial in a sexy, cut-out black Dolce & Gabbana gown that she paired with red strappy sandals with sparkly bow detailing. Like Gomez, Ke$ha opted for some cut-out detailing in her sparkly, slate-gray dress with tulle skirt. Rihanna looked white hot in her men's tailored Max Azria suit, which she kept sexy and feminine by not buttoning her shirt all the way.

Fergie went S&M chic in her little black bandage-type dress by Hervé Léger. Nicole Kidman also wore black. She paired a casual braid hairstyle with a long black gown and Keith Urban. British pop cutie Kyle Minogue looked funky in her little black lacey dress. Inside the show, Britney Spears sat in the audience wearing a skimpy black dress of her own, her hair in loose curls, with little-to-no accessories.

While some stars kept the color scheme low-key, Keri Hilson decided to stand out in her billowy little yellow dress paired with a turquoise-colored belt. Kelly Rowland showed off some of her best assets in a body-hugging, bright pink bandage dress.

The fellas also looked tight on the carpet. Joe Jonas wore all black with white sneakers, Ne-Yo paired his periwinkle suit with a Yankees cap and Justin Bieber wore black tuxedo pants with a gold-lamé tuxedo jacket.

Which stars' styles caught your eye at the Billboard Music Awards? Tell us in the comments.

'Jersey Shore' Cast Returns to Seaside Heights

'Jersey Shore' Cast Returns to Seaside Heights

They're home! After spending six weeks partying hard in Florence, Italy, the Jersey Shore cast has returned to Seaside Heights, N.J., to begin filming the show's fifth season.

Snooki, JWOWW, Deanna and the rest of their cohorts were snapped hanging out at the original Jersey Shore house on Monday. No doubt the cast is happy to be back in comfortable surroundings, speaking their language and bronzing their bods in American tanning beds.

Last week, rumors surfaced that MTV would be replacing the cast after this summer, but the network was quick to put the kibosh on that talk.

"We love the present cast and their summer adventures have just begun," a MTV spokesperson said. "We currently have no plans to recast the show."

And even if they tried, original member Pauly "DJ Pauly D" Delvecchio says lightning could never strike twice.

"I think we're irreplaceable," he told People.com, during an appearance in Las Vegas. "I don't think they could replace us. They'd just be people trying to be like us, anyway."

The fourth season of Jersey Shore begins on Aug. 4.

Ryan Dunn Remembered At Electric Daisy Carnival

David Guetta, Tiësto, Swedish House Mafia, Afrojack and Skrillex bring massive dance party to Las Vegas.
By Lara Kathleen Kelley

LAS VEGAS — They say, "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas," but when more than 200,000 screaming fans and an all-star lineup including Tiësto, David Guetta, Swedish House Mafia, Afrojack and Skrillex come together for the largest dance-music festival in the country, it's no secret.

Insomniac's 15th annual Electric Daisy Carnival over the weekend transformed Las Vegas' Motor Speedway into a carnival, complete with thrill rides and aerial performers, six stages, 13 large-scale art installations, full fireworks displays and even lavish helicopter rides that took VIPs to and from the festival.

A somber moment came during the end of Skrillex's set, when he dedicated a moment of silence for his friend, former "Jackass star" Ryan Dunn, who died in a car accident last week. Audience members used lighters and cell phones to light up the entire dance floor, paying respect to the young star.

Each night of the festival, parachuters lit up the skies with flashing lights and flew directly overhead, providing eye-catching entertainment. This state-of-the-art event was an audiovisual experience comparable to the Coachella festival but distinct in its own right, as it's one of the only festivals of its size that caters specifically to electronic-music fans.

"EDC LA was one of the top festivals I did last year, and I think Vegas (this year) will be that times 10," Afrojack told MTV News earlier last week. "The thing that makes EDC so different from other events is really the production. The sound and lighting is some of the craziest I've seen in the world."

Friday night kicked off with impressive sets by Manufactured Superstars, the Crystal Method and a powerful performance by Wolfgang Gartner, who invited rapper Eve onstage to perform their unreleased "Get Em." The bouncy, fun, club-ready track, which featured Eve's vocals throughout, is planned for Gartner's upcoming album.

Later, Dutch EDM legend Tiësto played a progressive house and trance set for his adoring fans, many who donned self-made T-shirts and body paint with his name proudly displayed across their chests, on the massive main stage. Meanwhile, dubstep dons Skream and Benga brought heavy beats and bass, with a 25-minute fireworks show as their backdrop. Major Lazer's Diplo and Switch closed out the night, summoning the sunrise with dancehall and hip-hop anthems that kept the crowd on their feet until the wee hours of the morning.

On Saturday, there were daytime pool parties at nearly every hotel on the strip, leaving little downtime before the festival doors reopened. Roger Sanchez, Dirty South, Boys Noize, Benny Benassi and Martin Solveig all played to crowds of bikini-clad women and sun-soaked fans, some that didn't have tickets to the actual festival, but most that just wanted more tunes from their favorite DJs. The Cosmopolitan was the official hotel of the artists and Insomniac promoters, so some fans had the added treat of meeting their favorite stars, like Dirty South, Chuckie and Avicii, as they walked in and out of the casino.

Saturday night drew the largest crowd, as each stage held massive headliners including Empire of the Sun, Above and Beyond, Richie Hawtin and Dada Life. Tens of thousands of fans chanted for Afrojack to start his set, then sang along to nearly every word of his signature tracks, "Take Over Control," "Give Me Everything" (his current Billboard Hot 100-topping Pitbull production) and "Show Me Love."

Pyrotechnics erupted across the vibrantly lit stage during Benny Benassi's set and carried over into superstar David Guetta's nearly two-hour performance of dance-party anthems. Guetta, who brought out Flavor Flav, included "I Got a Feeling," "Sexy Bitch" and his new single with Nicki Minaj, "Where Them Girls At," which will be on his August 30 release, "Nothing But the Beat."

Dubstep was a dominant genre at this year's festival, with high-rising stars like Rusko, Skrillex, 12th Planet and Bassnectar bringing their deep bass drops, wobbly rhythms and energetic personalities to the forefront as they captured the second-largest stage throughout the weekend. Even Benny Benassi added dubstep to his set and brought Skrillex onstage to hype fans for switching up the style. Skrill's remix of Benassi's "Cinema," featuring Gary Go, was an anthem at South by Southwest earlier this year. Drum and bass was also represented strongly with the likes of High Contrast, Subfocus, Hype and Andy C.

Sunday was saved for dance music's current rock stars, Swedish House Mafia, who performed a memorable set for their fervent fans. Among the Swedes' offerings was their current hit summer sing-along, "Save the World." They let loose many of their bangers including "One," "Miami 2 Ibiza'" and "Leave the World Behind."

Other honorable performances were Laidback Luke, Avicii, A-Trak and Afrojack, who played his second stellar set of the festival. Wolfgang Gartner and Dada Life also played twice at EDC and helped finish the final festival hours, nearing 6 a.m., for crowds who begged for the music to never end.

Were you at the Electric Daisy Carnival? Tell us who had the most memorable set in the comments below!

Clarence Clemons, In Memoriam: The Big Man, In More Ways Than One

The iconic sax man for Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band (and Lady Gaga) towered over contemporary music for nearly five decades.
By James Montgomery

Clarence Clemons
Photo: Getty Images

Clarence Clemons was affectionately known as "The Big Man," probably because, well, he was a big man. Standing six-feet, four-inches tall -- and nearly just as wide -- he towered over Bruce Springsteen, the E Street Band, and whomever else he shared the stage with during his five-decade career, casting a shadow as formidable as it was striking (it's no wonder Bruce decided to lean on him, like some sort of lamppost, on the cover of 1975's Born To Run).

But his physical size only told part of the story. Because Clemons was also a massive talent, a saxophonist as adept at filing an arena with his booming solos as he was providing a rock-solid backbone to Springsteen's churning, yearning rock. He was the Big Man because everything ran through him, because he was capable of both taking the lead (like on "Jungleland") and laying back in the cut (like on "10th Avenue Freeze Out," where his presence definitely shapes the song, but at no point overshadows its other components), and because of the tones he charmed from his sax ... crisp and clear-eyed, grandiose yet gritty, big yet decidedly blue-collar (just like he was), no one played like Clarence did. And when he died on Saturday at the age of 69 after complications from a stroke he suffered last week, not only did we lose a mountain of a man, but an icon as well.

See photos of Clemons throughout his career.

Simply put, Clemons was the most prominent sax player in popular music. And as proof, I'll ask you to name any of his contemporaries. Chances are, you can't; not because they don't exist, but because they couldn't begin to approach his stature. He was the go-to guy when the stars needed a session hand (recording with the likes of Aretha Franklin and Twisted Sister, and performing live with everyone from the Grateful Dead to Ringo Starr,) and, more recently, Lady Gaga tapped him to perform on her Born This Way album -- he appears in her new "The Edge Of Glory" video, a move that no doubt introduced his sublime playing to a whole new generation of fans. Shoot, he even appeared on "The Simpsons," "The Wire" and "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure," where he played, fittingly enough, one of the Three Most Important People in the World.

Remember Clemons with us on Facebook.

In passing, he leaves behind a catalog that's nearly as massive as his frame: not only his notable guest appearances, but several solo albums (and records he cut with backing bands like the Temple of Soul and the Red Bank Rockers) and, of course, the myriad of albums he cut with Springsteen and the E Street Band. And it's on those recordings -- starting with 1973's Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J. and continuing right on through 2009's Working on a Dream and last year's reissue The Promise -- where Clemons not only shone the brightest, but also showcased the reason why he earned his "Big Man" nickname. Sure, he burns on songs like "Badlands" and "Born To Run," but listen to his work on songs like "Prove It All Night" and "Dancing in the Dark" (to name six dozen) ... the times where he proves to be the Bigger Man, letting his fellow bandmates get their share, too.

Rarely has there been a player so soulful and selfless ... one so secure in his own status that he was willing to let others shine. It's why Clarence Clemons will forever be known as "The Big Man," and why, even in death, he still casts a formidable shadow over popular music and popular culture. He was the sax man's sax man. To paraphrase Springsteen on "Freeze Out," not only was the change was made uptown when the Big Man joined the band, but the mould was broken, too.

Michelle Obama Has 'Profound' Meeting With Nelson Mandela

We get an inside view of the first lady's meetings with South African leaders.
By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Lola Ogunnaike

Michelle Obama and Nelson Mandela
Photo: Whitehouse.gov

All this week, first lady Michelle Obama has been touring Africa with her mother and daughters as part of her ongoing work to engage and empower young people at home and abroad. Journalist Lola Ogunnaike has been covering the entire trip for BET as part of an upcoming special, "Impact on Africa: On a Mission With the First Lady." Ogunnaike called MTV News to share her insight and exclusive information about the experience. These are her words.

First lady Michelle Obama met with Graça Machel, Nelson Mandela's wife, at the Nelson Mandela Foundation earlier this week. It's clear to me the two of them enjoy a genuine rapport. Graça really seems to have an affinity for our first lady. She walked her around the museum, and the two of them looked at everything from old diaries to old itineraries to books to letters that he'd written.

One of the facts that seemed to take Obama aback was that at one point while Mandela was incarcerated — because he was incarcerated for 27 years — he was allowed to write only one letter every six months. You could see her face recoil. Can you imagine being able to communicate with the outside world only once every six months? I think it was something she was amazed by and which moved her in a profound way.
